Application Engineer

Join WE Tech Solutions as an Application Engineer to develop and configure control software for electrification solutions in the shipping industry. You will work on WE Drive solutions, managing electric power generation, distribution, and energy storage. The role involves following projects from the design phase through manufacturing, factory testing, and final commissioning on board vessels, ensuring compliance with marine standards and major classification societies.

Main Tasks

• Develop and configure control system software for WE Drive solutions, primarily using IEC 61131-3 (Structured Text) on PLC-based platforms.
• Build secure-by-design control systems in line with IACS UR E27 and validate functionality against customer and class requirements (e.g., DNV, ABS, LR, BV).
• Prepare and maintain project documentation, including functional descriptions and system block diagrams.
• Provide technical support to internal teams, customers, shipyards, and partners during development, manufacturing, and commissioning.

Requirements

• M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Automation, Electrical Engineering, or a similar field.
• Relevant experience with industrial control systems, including PLCs and VFDs.
• Good understanding of electrical power systems and power electronics.
• Hands-on programming experience with Structured Text and PLC development environments.
• A structured way of working with high attention to detail, particularly in documentation.
• Full professional proficiency in English (written and spoken).
• Eligibility to live and work in Finland.

Strong Advantages

• Experience with control system development in marine or offshore projects and working with class requirements.
• Knowledge of power electronics, variable frequency drives, DC grids, or battery systems, as well as industrial communication protocols.
• Knowledge of or experience with cyber security for industrial control systems (especially IACS UR E26/E27).
