Market gardener at Ekkulla

Ekkulla
Finland, 10360 MUSTIO
Full-time
Seasonal

Beautifully located Ekkulla is the former village school of the Svartå foundry village, which we purchased from the City of Raseborg in 2021. After an extensive renovation, we moved in in 2022, and today I, Rafael, live here together with my wife Ninni, our daughter, our two cats, and our chickens. We grow vegetables in a diverse manner while also operating a seasonal café with an interior design shop in the main building. In 2024, our café was selected as Café Experience of the Year by Glorian Ruoka & Viini magazine and attracts visitors from all over Finland. Our market garden currently consists of approximately 1,000 square meters of permanent growing beds. We farm without tractors, pesticides, or artificial fertilizers, and we are a certified Slow Food Farm. Nearly all work is done by hand, and we grow over 80 different vegetables in open fields, which are sold directly from the farm—ranging from garlic and cucumbers to black kale and turnips. We are looking for someone interested in vegetable growing, outdoor life, physical work, nature, and sustainability issues, for work starting when the growing season begins in March–April. You do not need formal training in the field or relevant experience, although this is considered an advantage. The following are also seen as advantages: - Experience with physical work and good physical fitness - Interest in the field and general curiosity - Ability to work in all kinds of weather - Ability to work at a fast pace and a willingness to develop oneself The work is very varied, and no two days are the same. At the beginning of the season, however, a large part of the work consists of sowing, transplanting, and soil preparation. You will mainly work outdoors, under my supervision. The position is full-time, from March to September. The start and end dates can be discussed depending on your life situation. There is also some flexibility in working hours.
