Bluefors is seeking a Trainee for Cryogenic and Quantum Modelling to join the Quantum and Measurement Team. This role involves developing theoretical and numerical models that link thermal, mechanical, and quantum aspects of cryogenic systems, supporting customer projects, R&D, and scientific publications.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop theoretical and numerical models for thermal modelling of dilution refrigerators (heat loads to helium mixture behaviour at millikelvin temperatures).
  • Model the mechanical and thermal integration of control components for quantum computing (e.g., wiring, filters, and amplifiers).
  • Create Hamiltonian and open quantum system descriptions of how the cryogenic environment and control hardware affect qubit operation.
  • Run simulations to support business operations and customer projects.
  • Support R&D projects and contribute to scientific publications.

Requirements:

  • Ongoing or recently completed studies in physics, engineering, applied mathematics, or a relevant field.
  • A solid foundation in physics.
  • Experience with numerical methods, specifically solving partial differential equations (PDEs).
  • Programming skills in Python and experience with Git.
  • Strength in at least one of the following areas:
  • Heat transfer and thermal simulation, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), or cryogenic/low-temperature physics.
  • Multiphysics and finite element modelling.
  • Open quantum systems, or tools such as QuTip or Sc qubits.
  • Excellent scientific writing skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Existing publication record.
  • Experience with Julia.
  • Circuit simulation with SPICE or Qucs.
  • Machine learning applied to scientific problems (e.g., surrogate models or data-driven simulation).
  • Good practices in software testing and documentation.
  • Experience with computing infrastructure, such as GPU workstations.
  • A public GitHub or GitLab repository showing numerical modelling or scientific software.

Work Conditions & Benefits:

  • 12-month fixed-term trainee position.
  • Full-time work schedule.
  • Support from experienced physicists and engineers for professional development.
  • Multicultural working environment.
  • Competitive benefits package, employee share program, and a flexible working environment.",
