Senior Protection Engineer

Hitachi Energy is seeking an enthusiastic, flexible, and curious Senior Protection Engineer to join the Grid Automation business in Vaasa or Helsinki, Finland. You will be part of an innovative engineering and testing team specializing in the control and protection area of substation automation projects.

Your Role
As a Protection Engineer, you will be responsible for the successful execution of the control and protection scope of substation automation projects globally. You will work closely with project managers, SCADA engineers, and customers. Depending on the project size, you will technically lead a small team of engineers based in global engineering centers to ensure high-quality, timely delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop protection and control concepts for (sub-)transmission systems in collaboration with customers.
• Lead the hardware design of bay level cubicles within the substation.
• Configure Protection and Control IEDs according to customer specifications.
• Manage factory testing in Vaasa and lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for customers.
• Oversee control and protection site tests at customer locations.
• Provide technical leadership to a small team of engineers in global engineering centers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, computer, or systems engineering, or a related field.
• Previous experience in substation control and protection systems and communication protocols (e.g., IEC61850).
• Experience with Hitachi Energy's protection and control IED portfolio (Relion family and PCM600) or E3.series (for hardware design) is a significant advantage.
• Proficiency in both Finnish and English (spoken and written).
• A structured, proactive engineering approach with a commitment to project budgets and plans.
