(if studies have not been completed in Finland, the degree must be recognized by the Finnish National Agency for Education) Opettajan kelpoisuudet määräytyvät opetustoimen henkilöstön kelpoisuusvaatimuksista annetun asetuksen no 986/98 mukaisesti. Vieraskielisessä opetuksessa käytettävän kielen hallinta määräytyy Opetushallituksen määräyksen 1435/2022 mukaisesti. Englannin kielen taidon osoittamiseksi hakijan tulee olla suorittanut yliopistossa vähintään 60 opintopisteen laajuiset englannin kielen opinnot tai kaikki yleisistä kielitutkinnoista annetun lain (964/2004) mukaiseen tutkintoon sisältyvät osakokeet ylimmällä taitotasolla 5 englannin kielessä, ennen vuotta 2002 suoritetussa tutkinnossa kuitenkin taitotasolla 7 tai opettajankoulutus englannin kielellä sellaisessa maassa, jonka virallinen kieli englanti on. Tutkinnosta tulee olla Opetushallituksen rinnastuspäätös tai vähintään 80 opintopistettä ylemmän korkeakoulututkinnon opinnoista englannin kielellä.
