Second Engineer Responsibilities 1. The Machinist/Fitter is directly responsible for the safe working practices of all personnel working for them. 2. The Machinist/Fitter must undertake work in any part of the ship where his special skills are required, and will report to the Chief or Second Engineer Officer in respect of maintenance. 3. The Machinist/Fitter may be responsible to the Cargo/Gas Engineer. 4. Where experienced he will take charge of mooring/anchoring stations at the discretion of the Master. 5. The Machinist /Fitter should bring any defects to the attention of the VMT and suggest remedial actions required to rectify the same. 6. He should actively participate in the vessels Unsafe Act Auditing programme through completion of Unsafe Acts and Condition reports and in assistance with the Safety Officer. 7. He should be fully conversant with Permit to Work systems and the Daily Work Planning procedures. 8. In addition he must carry out any lawful command and delegated duty as issued by the Chief Engineer, Master, Cargo/Gas Engineer or delegated OOW.
