We are now looking for Field technician to join Oulanka research station for a fixed-term position 1.2.2026-31.7.2027. Oulanka research station is a regional unit of the University of Oulu and its main roles are to facilitate high-level research and university teaching. The station is situated in the middle of Oulanka national park, a region very rich in spectacular nature sites - a rare opportunity to work in the middle of most beautiful nature! Although Oulanka has a focus and strong history on natural sciences and environmental engineering, the station is open to all kinds of research, also multidisciplinary and arts. The position is a perfect chance to learn the ins and outs of field work related to climate science and to freshwater ecology and to gain valuable experience by working together with world-class research groups. About the job In the position of field technician you would contribute mainly to facilitating field research activities at Oulanka with some data management also included. There would be a strong focus on field work including collection of various biological samples, measurements of environmental parameters, maintenance, installation, calibration etc. of measuring instruments, accompanying sensors, loggers, and other equipment. You would also do data mining and data refining from the above types of sources. In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you: - The skills and mindset that enable field work around the year in remote conditions - An applicable higher education degree - Strong written and spoken skills in English are required as the work involves close collaboration with international research groups - A background in working with biological (outdoor) sampling, environmental sensors, loggers, including their programming, is seen as an advantage, in particular if it includes experience with micrometeorological instrumentation - Experience of doing field work in challenging conditions is seen as a strong benefit as is experience of working with long-term natural experiments - Excellent IT skills - Good communication skills We also appreciate: - Strong Finnish language skills - The ability to adapt to sometimes quickly changing timetables - A dynamic nature of workflow is seen as an advantage Salary The position is fixed-term starting from 1.2.2026 (or as agreed). The salary will be based on the level 6 of the demand level chart for other expert and support staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 2600-2800 EUR per month (before taxes). A trial period of 6 months is applied in the position. How to apply? Interested?
